Asanas (physical postures) help tone the nervous system, improve circulation, release tension, and increase flexibility. Regular yoga practice helps lubricate joints, muscles, ligaments and tendons. As a whole, yoga works to improve the functioning of all body systems, including the digestive and glandular systems. Yoga brings energy to the physical body with the cleansing of the nadis (energy channels) that circulate the pranic energy. Asanas are preferably practiced on an empty stomach. Light foods can be ingested up to two hours before asanas.
